If you are a zombie film purist, then not only is this list of many remakes not for you, but you probably don't need a list to begin with.

Comments about Night of the Living Dead:
This is the film I grade all other zombie movies from. Wonderful cinematography and a great understanding of fight or flight makes this movie a timeless classic.

The group of friends had all they would need for a successful Easter vacation; cabin, skis, snowmobile, toboggan, copious amounts of beer and a fertile mix of the sexes. Certainly, none of them had anticipated not returning home alive! However, the N... full movie details

Comments about Dead Snow (Død snø):
I just discovered this film and instanly fell in love. It has all the throwback elements of the greats. This movie does not take itself seriously but does produce good scares. It also has plenty of gore and all the needed zombie weapons for some good killing. Nice gore and good humor made this jump right up this list.

3

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
9.2
Rating Reviews: 0 | Written Reviews: 0
A group of surviving people take refuge in a shopping center after the world has been over taken over by aggressive, flesh-eating zombies. A remake of the 1978 zombie film of the same name.
Action | Apocalypse | Bad Ass Chicks | Gore |
Plagues & Viruses | Zombies
105 mins.

Comments about Dawn of the Dead:
This is the remake to the original and I actually enjoy it more than the George Romero version (I am sure most wouldn't agree). This movie just keeps coming. Fast, angry, aggressive zombies are really scary. The camera angles and set makes the movie feel much bigger than just a shopping mall. This is by far the most intense style of zombie flick, it will have you climbing the back of your couch and up the wall as you cringe and squirm. Just the way it should be...

The Horde (2009)
8.5
Rating Reviews: 3 | Written Reviews: 1
A posse of crooked cops, malevolent gangsters and a horde of walking dead are the centre point of this gruesome, tight, action packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape. Penned like animals, on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block,... full movie details

Comments about The Horde:
This Movie is great! Good scares, lots of intensity and they play with the moments elluding before someone is bitten in a more old school horror movie way. Creates a fun artificial tension that makes you care about the characters, worry on their behalf and constantly cheer them on. This film really explores the dynamics of human interaction when backed into a corner and forced into a life or death role. This film did really well in this exploration under a compressed plot timeline.

5

Quarantine (2008)
8.4
Rating Reviews: 1 | Written Reviews: 1
A television reporter and her cameraman are trapped inside a building quarantined by the CDC after the outbreak of a mysterious virus which turns humans into bloodthirsty killers.
Found Footage | Gore | Mockumentary | Plagues & Viruses89 mins.
Latest Review: 2012-07-10
Comments about Quarantine:
This is a remake of the spanish film REC. Although I love REC, I give quarantine the nod due to the underlying "The government is evil" subplot that really shinned through. If you haven't seen this, you should. I don't normally like the blair witch style filming, but this movie does it right. I love the intensity of this movie. It is also the most believable way I have seen a zombie outbreak portrayed.

6

Deadgirl (2008)
8.2
Rating Reviews: 0 | Written Reviews: 0
Two high school boys discover an imprisoned woman in an abandoned mental asylum who cannot die.
Drama | Forcible Confinement | Supernatural | Thriller101 mins.
Latest Review: 2011-01-23
Comments about Deadgirl:
This movie is not for the faint of heart! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! This film was awesome, it offers a new perspective on the human condition in regards to why we fear or don't fear the un-dead. Seriously though, if the remake of the hills have eyes was a bit much for you, then this film is not for you..

28 Days Later (2002)

Rating Reviews: 1 | Written Reviews: 0
Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.
Apocalypse | Plagues & Viruses | Suspense | Thriller |
Zombies

Comments about 28 Days Later:
this movie is grainy and gritty. It plays with the human conditon and plays to the fear of being alone. I have seen it many times and it still remains fun to watch. They found a way to get you comfortable enough to relax and have a little fun with the characters before they really turn it on. Just a very raw take on how far you have to go to survive zombies.

Braindead (Dead Alive) (1992)

Comments about Braindead (Dead Alive):
Comedy and Horror have never meshed so well. This is both on of the silliest and one of the goriest zombie movies ever made. There is actually a scene when the main character enters a hall full of zombies with a lawnmower strapped to his chest. it was so grusome that it has been removed from the rated version of the film. I believe this is actually considered the goriest film ever made.

9

Resident Evil (2002)

Comments about Resident Evil:
What happens when you combine a badass group of mercenaries with zombies?? Awesome is what happens. Its a good old fashon hollywood take on zombies, very shinny and a little to pretty but entertaining none the less. If you are a video game nerd you will love this.

10

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Shaun of the Dead is a humorous homage to Zombie movies from director Edgar Wright; an outrageous romantic comedy with zombies.
Comedy | Gore | Zombies95 mins.

Comments about Shaun of the Dead:
I love this movie, it is smart, funny and filmed really well. This movie is chalked full of whit and one liners that will stick with you. I loved the first scene in the movie when they repeat the same morning routine and don't even notice the way things have changed for the worst...

Bill murray makes this movie! Total comedy but good gore really dumb zombies and a funny story. It has good video game throwback references. It also makes for a fun backdrop how they take a moment to savor the zombie kills.
